Data Architect
Calimala partners with enterprises across the Gulf and Europe to design, build, and scale Data & AI teams. As a Data Architect, you’ll join a network of practitioners who understand both the business questions that need answering and the technical patterns that make those answers sustainable over time.
This role sits at the centre of how data is structured, governed, and shared. You’ll define target architectures, data models, and integration patterns that support reporting, advanced analytics, and AI—while making sure solutions remain maintainable and cost-effective.
What you'll be doing
As a Data Architect at Calimala, you’ll lead and support engagements where data is a core asset. One project might involve defining the end-to-end architecture for a new data platform; another could focus on consolidating siloed systems, standardising data models, or improving data governance across multiple domains.
“We design data systems that teams can live with: clear enough to explain, robust enough to trust, and flexible enough to evolve.”
You’ll work closely with stakeholders from across the business, as well as engineers, analysts, and platform teams. You’ll translate business requirements into logical and physical models, define interface contracts between systems, and guide delivery teams so that implemented solutions stay aligned with the architecture.
Who we're looking for
You’re comfortable moving between whiteboard and code: zooming out to describe how data should flow across an organisation, and zooming in when needed to support design decisions with specific patterns and technologies.
You’ve likely worked in enterprise or consulting environments, shaping roadmaps as well as delivering concrete designs. At Calimala, we value depth, accountability, and partnership—you’re the person who brings clarity to complex landscapes and helps teams converge on workable, well-reasoned solutions.
Strong experience in data architecture, data warehousing, or enterprise information architecture
Solid grounding in data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical) and techniques such as dimensional modelling, data vault, or similar
Experience designing architectures for analytics, BI, and/or AI/ML workloads
Familiarity with modern data platform components (e.g. data lakes, lakehouses, warehouses, streaming, metadata and governance tools)
Practical experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and relevant data services
Ability to collaborate with engineers and analysts, review solutions against architecture, and adjust designs based on constraints
Experience with data governance topics (data ownership, quality, lineage, access) is a strong plus
We’re looking for practitioners who care about both elegance and pragmatism: people who can design clear architectures, communicate them simply, and support teams in making them real.
