Platform Engineer
Calimala partners with enterprises across the Gulf and Europe to design, build, and scale Data & AI teams. As a Platform Engineer, you’ll join a network of practitioners who understand that modern delivery depends on good platforms: opinionated enough to give guardrails, flexible enough for teams to move quickly.
This role sits at the foundation of how teams build, deploy, and operate software and data workloads. You’ll design and run shared services—Kubernetes clusters, CI/CD templates, observability stacks, data and ML platforms—that different teams can consume as a product, not a collection of scripts.
What you'll be doing
As a Platform Engineer at Calimala, you’ll lead and support engagements where multiple teams need consistent ways to ship and run workloads. One project might involve standing up a new Kubernetes-based platform with standardised pipelines; another could focus on maturing an existing platform with better self-service, security, and observability.
“We treat platforms as products for engineers: clear contracts, paved paths, and tooling that removes friction instead of adding it.”
You’ll work closely with DevOps, MLOps, data engineering, and security teams to define golden paths, standard templates, and reusable components. You’ll help turn ad-hoc practices into documented, automated workflows—so that teams can focus on solving business problems rather than rebuilding infrastructure.
Who we're looking for
You’re comfortable working across cloud services, containers, CI/CD, and observability. You enjoy designing systems that other engineers rely on every day, and you think in terms of APIs, interfaces, and user experience for internal teams.
You’ve likely worked in platform, SRE, or large-scale product environments where consistency and reliability mattered as much as speed. At Calimala, we value depth, accountability, and partnership—you take ownership of the platforms you build and care about how they’re adopted and evolved.
Strong hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
Solid background in containerization and orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) in production environments
Experience designing and maintaining platform services for engineering teams (e.g. deployment pipelines, internal developer portals, templates)
Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform, ARM/Bicep, CloudFormation) and Git-based workflows
Familiarity with observability stacks (logging, metrics, tracing) and using them to improve reliability and performance
Understanding of security, networking, and access control in multi-team, multi-environment setups
Experience collaborating with multiple delivery teams, gathering requirements, and iterating on platform features
We’re looking for practitioners who see platform engineering as a leverage function: people who build shared foundations that quietly raise the bar for every team that builds on top of them.
